GPS Insight is a leading provider of fleet management software trusted by commercial, government, and field service fleets across North America. Their platform brings together GPS fleet tracking, AI-powered smart cameras, ELD compliance, and asset monitoring under a single solution — but the value of that platform starts with hardware that’s installed and configured correctly.

Orbital Installation Technologies is an experienced GPS Insight installation partner with an in-house team of certified technicians ready to deploy the full GPS Insight hardware lineup across fleets of any size, vehicle type, and operational environment. From plug-and-play OBD-II trackers to hardwired telematics devices, smart camera systems, ELD hardware, and battery-powered asset trackers, Orbital handles the hardware side so your GPS Insight investment delivers from day one.

What Professional GPS Insight Installation Enables

The GPS Insight platform gives fleet managers visibility into where their vehicles are, how their drivers are behaving, whether their assets are where they should be, and whether their trucks are running in compliance with federal hours-of-service requirements. Connecting all of that to the platform depends on properly installed, registered, and validated hardware. Professional installation by Orbital ensures the full GPS Insight platform works the way it’s supposed to:

  • Real-time GPS fleet tracking with location updates, trip history, route playback, and geofencing
  • AI-powered driver behavior monitoring, including detection of distracted driving, speeding, hard braking, following distance violations, and traffic sign infractions
  • Dual-facing camera coverage capturing both the road and the cab, with in-cab audio alerts that help drivers self-correct in the moment
  • Engine diagnostics via OBD-II and J1939 ECM integration, including fault codes, idle time, engine hours, and fuel data
  • FMCSA-certified ELD compliance for hours-of-service logging on light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles
  • AI-assisted event review — with a human in the loop — to filter noise, surface the events that matter, and support accurate driver coaching
  • Asset tracking across powered and unpowered equipment with motion-based alerts and geofence monitoring
  • Cloud-based reporting with 60+ report types, custom dashboards, and 25+ configurable alert types
  • Driver ID via Bluetooth BLE keyfob, linking each trip to a specific driver for accountability and coaching

Devices installed correctly produce accurate, reliable data from the start. Rushed or incorrect installations produce GPS gaps, missed ECM connections, camera misalignments, and ELD failures that undermine the program before it gets off the ground.

The GPS Insight Hardware Lineup

Orbital’s certified technicians are trained across the full GPS Insight hardware family — vehicle trackers, smart cameras, ELD devices, and asset trackers. Every device category has distinct installation requirements, connection dependencies, and validation steps. Getting those right is what determines whether a GPS Insight program actually delivers.

Vehicle Trackers: XT25, PNP-3000, and GPSI-5000

The XT25 is GPS Insight’s current-generation plug-and-play vehicle tracker, supporting OBD-II or hardwired diagnostic pass-through cable connections, Driver ID via a Bluetooth BLE keyfob, and a range of input and accessory expansion options. Plug-and-play doesn’t mean plug-and-forget; proper XT25 deployment includes bracket mounting to prevent movement, proper cable routing, and registration through GPS Insight’s Verify GPS web app to confirm the device is live and reporting accurately before the vehicle leaves.

The PNP-3000 series remains in active deployment across many GPS Insight fleets. Orbital continues to install and support PNP-3000 devices for customers still rolling out or expanding existing programs on that hardware. Installation and registration follow the same structured process as the XT25 — OBD-II connection, secure mounting, and Verify GPS confirmation before the vehicle returns to service.

The GPSI-5000 is GPS Insight’s hardwired telematics device, built for fleets that require a permanent, tamper-resistant installation. It supports conventional hardwiring and diagnostic-cable methods, J1939 ECM integration on heavy-duty vehicles, and a broad accessory ecosystem including temperature sensors, seatbelt monitors, starter disable, remote panic, Driver ID, and tablet integration. The range of configuration options means installation planning matters, and the right connection method and accessory setup have to be determined before a technician touches the vehicle, not during.

Smart Cameras: AIR II and Driveri

The AIR II combines a road-facing camera, GPS tracking, and G-force-based event detection in a single device, meaning a single, correctly installed device unlocks all three. Because the AIR II mounts behind the rearview mirror, precise positioning directly affects video quality, field of view, and event detection accuracy. When deploying with a diagnostic cable for engine data, ECM connectivity must be confirmed during installation validation, not assumed.

Driveri uses vision-based AI to analyze 100% of drive time, making correct installation more critical than with event-triggered cameras. A Driveri that’s mounted off-axis, vibrating from a loose bracket, or aimed incorrectly won’t detect what it’s supposed to detect, and the coaching program built on top of it will be working from bad data. For Driveri Hub-X multi-camera deployments on buses, tractor-trailers, and box trucks, each camera angle requires individual positioning and validation. A 360-degree view is complete only if every angle is covered.

ELD Compliance Hardware

GPS Insight’s FMCSA-certified ELD hardware supports both heavy-duty and light-duty vehicles and pairs with GPS Insight’s multi-lingual ELD application for hours-of-service logging. ELD installation carries compliance stakes that other hardware doesn’t. A device that isn’t properly connected to the ECM or hasn’t been validated for accurate data transmission puts the fleet’s DOT audit readiness at risk. Orbital confirms ECM connectivity and verifies data transmission before any vehicle returns to service.

Asset Trackers: TT-610 and AT-3000

The TT-610 is GPS Insight’s current-generation battery-powered asset tracker, built for unpowered trailers, containers, and equipment. Its IP68 weatherproof rating, cold-weather supercapacitor, Wi-Fi indoor reporting capability, and LTE CAT-M1 connectivity with three concurrent global navigation systems are only as useful as the installation behind them. A tracker that’s loosely mounted, improperly secured, or registered incorrectly produces location data you can’t trust. Orbital installs, secures, and validates every TT-610 before deployment.

The AT-3000 is GPS Insight’s externally powered asset tracker, designed for generators, heavy equipment, diggers, and trailers with available power connections. It uses both cellular and satellite connectivity and supports temperature sensor accessories. Powered asset tracker installations involve wiring to an external power source, which means proper fusing, clean connections, and post-install validation apply here too.

Hardwired Installation: Why It Matters

GPS Insight offers plug-and-play OBD-II options for fleets that need fast, low-friction deployment. For enterprise and government programs, plug-in devices carry a risk that hardwired installations don’t: they can be unplugged. A device pulled from the OBD-II port — intentionally or not — immediately cuts off GPS visibility, camera coverage, engine data, and ELD logging. In a program built around accountability, an accessible device is a vulnerability.

Orbital eliminates that risk by integrating GPS Insight hardware directly into the vehicle’s electrical system using OEM-safe wiring practices and proper fusing for each vehicle make and model. Devices are mounted securely, positioned correctly, and confirmed to be communicating before the vehicle leaves the bay. For fleets deploying Driveri, mounting precision matters beyond tamper prevention alone. A camera that’s slightly off-axis misses the driver’s face during critical events. Orbital’s QC process includes an AI-assisted photo review with a human reviewer in the loop, validating camera alignment against GPS Insight’s specified positioning standards for every vehicle before sign-off.

ECM Integration and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Considerations

Getting the full depth of GPS Insight’s engine data on heavy-duty vehicles means selecting and confirming the right ECM interface. The GPSI-5000 connects to J1939 on Class 7 and 8 trucks to capture engine-on/off, idle time, fault codes, engine hours, fuel consumption, and vehicle speed. On light-duty vehicles, OBD-II integration via the diagnostic pass-through cable delivers the same data through the J1962 port.

Orbital’s technicians select the appropriate connection method for each vehicle type, verify that engine data flows accurately during post-install validation, and confirm Driver ID and accessory functionality, where applicable. Every vehicle is live and confirmed before it returns to service.

GPS Insight Hardware Installation by Orbital

Orbital installs and validates the complete GPS Insight hardware lineup across commercial vehicles, government fleets, field service operations, transit assets, and specialty equipment. Every installation is tailored to the device’s and the vehicle’s requirements.

XT25 Installations

Orbital manages the full XT25 installation process: OBD-II or hardwired diagnostic cable connection, secure mounting, Driver ID configuration, accessory integration where applicable, and device registration and verification through the GPS Insight Verify GPS web app. Post-install confirmation ensures the device is reporting accurately before the vehicle is returned to the fleet.

GPSI-5000 Installations

For fleets requiring permanent hardwired telematics, Orbital handles conventional hardwire or diagnostic cable installation, J1939 or OBD-II ECM connection, accessory integration including temperature sensors, seatbelt monitors, and Driver ID, and full post-install validation of GPS reporting, engine data accuracy, and device communication.

AIR II Fleet All-in-One Installations

Orbital installs and validates the AIR II behind the rearview mirror, confirming GPS lock, G-force event calibration, and in-cab alert functionality. For deployments using the diagnostic cable for engine data, Orbital confirms ECM connectivity and validates data flow before sign-off. Auxiliary camera support is available for expanded coverage configurations.

Driveri Smart Camera Installations

Driveri installations require precise placement and correct wiring to function as designed. Orbital manages the full installation process, including secure mounting, power integration, and post-install validation, confirming AI event detection is active and the camera is communicating with the GPS Insight platform. For Driveri Hub-X multi-camera deployments, each camera is positioned and validated individually before the full system is signed off.

ELD Hardware Installations

Orbital installs and validates GPS Insight ELD hardware with the correct ECM interface, confirms data transmission to the ELD application, and obtains vehicle-level sign-off before driver deployment, ensuring documentation meets the standard and protects the fleet’s compliance program when it matters.

Asset Tracker Installations

Orbital installs and configures the full GPS Insight asset tracker lineup, including battery-powered TT-610 deployments on unpowered trailers and equipment and externally powered AT-3000 installations on generators, heavy equipment, and powered assets. Every deployment includes device registration, GPS validation, geofence configuration, and motion alert setup before the asset returns to service.

TaskRaptor: Deployment Governance Across Every Vehicle

A GPS Insight deployment is only as consistent as the process behind it. One vehicle with a missed ECM connection, a misaligned Driveri camera, or an unregistered asset tracker is a gap in the program, and across a large fleet, small inconsistencies accumulate quickly. Orbital governs every installation through TaskRaptor, its proprietary deployment platform built for structured, accountable fleet hardware rollouts.

TaskRaptor tracks every step of the installation workflow in real time, generating GPS-stamped, photo-verified proof of work for each completed vehicle and asset. An AI-assisted QC review process — with a human in the loop — flags issues and anomalies before vehicles are signed off, not after. All job data flows into customer back-office systems through RESTful APIs, giving fleet managers and program administrators a complete deployment record that holds up under scrutiny.

A consistent process for every vehicle:

  • Pre-deployment fleet assessment and hardware verification
  • Vehicle-specific installation planning, including ECM interface selection, camera positioning, and accessory configuration
  • Secure mounting and electrical integration that protects vehicle systems and warranties
  • Device registration and verification through GPS Insight’s Verify GPS app and platform
  • Post-install validation confirming GPS accuracy, engine data flow, camera function, and ELD connectivity where applicable
  • Vehicles and assets returned to service only after successful validation — not before
